The benefit of using this gadget is obvious in that you reduce the chances of giving your guests food poisoning. Sensors in the gadgets detect any problems with foods and Bluetooth technology transmits this data to the chef’s smart phone at the touch of a button.

Spread That knife

Never rip another piece of bread again when you butter it with the Spread That knife. This knife is a one of a kind that spreads butter from the fridge without the use of electricity. (ideal for Durbanites, surely). Simply put, it uses cutting edge heat conducting technologies to spread butter using body heat from your hand on the handle of the knife. Super clever!

Mellow

Sous-vide is a cooking technology where food is sealed in airtight plastic bags in a water bath or in a temperature-controlled steam environment for longer than normal cooking times and at a low heat. (Chefs sometimes use dishwashers to create the same effect). The intention is to cook the item evenly, ensuring that the inside is properly cooked without overcooking the outside, and retain moisture. Mellow is a sous-vide machine that takes orders through your smartphone and keeps food cold until it’s the exact time to start cooking. Activate your cooking from the flick of a button on your phone.

Verilux is a rechargeable sanitizing wand that will help you see germs on counters and area where food is prepared, even if you can’t see the bacteria or germs yourself. It’s a cordless gadget that uses ultraviolet-C light to kill up to 99 percent of germs, viruses and other micro-organisms. A brilliant gadget for hoteliers who operate and clean kitchens, bathrooms, bed linen and so on.

Cinnibird

Aside from the fact that we love the name, this little gadget will help you pretty up your food and beverages. It’s essentially a little pen that uses spices and seasoning as its ‘ink’. You can have a ball doodling on your latte, your mash potato and just about anything else you can dicky up with a little creativity. Barristers, confectioners and chefs have never had it so good.

Microgarden

This microgreen growing kit makes growing your own food simple and easy. The kit comes with:

  • 3 varieties of organic seeds – peppery rucola, crunchy mustard and spicy radish. Another week in the light and the microgreens are ready to eat – you don’t even have to water them.
  • Easy to use instructions
  • The origami kit folds into a mini-greenhouse.

Mitto

This rod will heat absolutely any liquid you want – tea, soup, milk, any liquid at all. The induction base heats the rod, which then heats the liquid surrounding it. It’s simple to use and easy to transport – hot tea or coffee is ready in a flash to this Mitto rod.
