What is a food and beverage manager?

A food and beverage manager plans, organises, and manages the food and beverage supply for a hospitality venue such as a hotel or restaurant.

As an F&B Manager, you would plan types and quantities of food and drinks needed during a particular timeframe, make sure the goods are ordered, delivered, and paid for, that the items are correctly used, and that the hotel or restaurant makes a profit from its food and beverage services.

What will you study?

You’ll study industry-specific subjects like bar and beverage management, food production, culinary terminology, purchasing management, food safety, sales and marketing, hotel and restaurant accounting, leadership management, and planning and control for food and beverage operations.

You’ll also study business management subjects like computers, health and safety, conversational french, new business development, career preparation, and hospitality trends.

Practical subjects will include things like food production, banqueting, food and beverage services, purchasing and stores, larder, pastry, butchery, main kitchen, and work experience.

The practical component gives you highly valuable experience before you head out into the working world.
