About Rovos trains
The Rovos Rail luxury trains can carry a maximum of 72 passengers at a time with 36 suites on board. They are driven by diesel or electric locomotives and traverse 8 stunning African journeys that range from the Cape to Dar es Salaam. They explore wildlife, coastlines, mountains and breathtaking African landscapes, offering passengers a unique way to explore Africa and South Africa. These different journeys can last from 2 days to 30 days and every guest who boards a Rovos train will enjoy all meals, beverages, excursions and accommodation whilst on board. The train has been kitted out to resemble various yesteryear looks but with every modern convenience and facility a guest could need.
What can guests expect on board?
In fact, guests can enjoy a selection of luxury Suites (Royal, Deluxe and Pullman Suites) as well as a charming dining car with a Victorian atmosphere, two lounges and an observation car. Diners are required to dress for dinner (suit, jacket and tie / evening dress) before they head off to the dining car to enjoy freshly prepared snacks and a formal dinner. The culinary team use fresh local ingredients and offer traditional dishes which often include game meats. Award winning wines are served to accompany the meal. No cellphones, laptops or any other gadgets which may interrupt guests may be used anywhere on the train except in the privacy of your own suite – so meal times are pure relaxation and enjoyment… as they should be.
A room with a view
The Suites are a grand affair – they are incredibly spacious (the Royal Suites measure a huge ±16 sq metres) and include gorgeous wood panelling and period Edwardian features as well as a private lounge and full en suite bathroom that includes both a Victorian Bath and a separate shower. The rooms offer air-conditioning, hair dryers, private safes, bar fridges and a butler service. 24 hour room service is also available to all guests and orders can be placed with the staff via the in-room telephone.
Party time on board
Rovos also now boast an Events Train which can be used for train safaris charters, private functions and corporate tours, conferences, incentives, product launches or private celebrations such as weddings for up to 250 guests. Some guests also make use of this train for overnight trips with incentive groups, historical tours, private family gatherings and bird shoots. The opportunities are endless. Isn’t it time you stepped on board Rovos and stepped back into a romantic bygone era?
